TULSA, Okla. –– It was the Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) at The University of Tulsa Sunday afternoon as the Golden Hurricane women's basketball team hosted the Tulane Green Wave at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
NGWSD is an annual day of observance held during the first week of February to acknowledge the accomplishments of female athletes, recognize the influence of sports participation for women and girls, and honor the progress exhibited by women in sports.
Each year, TU celebrates the extraordinary achievements of women and girls in sports at a women's basketball game. The University of Tulsa recognizes a female with local ties who has been influential for her support of or involvement in sports. This year, TU's own Stephane Hall, the school's director of athletic media relations, is the recipient of the school's NGWSD recognition.
Hall first came to Tulsa as an intern in 2002 and later moved into a full-time role as assistant sports information director. In 2015, Hall was appointed director of athletic media relations. Although she is the primary communications contact for women's basketball, women's rowing and women's soccer, as well as men's soccer, she has led the way in publicizing all women's sports at TU. Her responsibilities are many and far-reaching within the athletic department.
Past recipients include Emily Barkley, Union HS athletic director; Aimee Creger, Tulsa All-America softball pitcher; Becky Dixon, sports broadcasting pioneer; Jan Drummond, TU professor; Pat Hardin, strong supporter of TU athletics and women's sports; Marjorie Lewis, sportswriter; Dale McNamara, Tulsa's legendary women's golf coach, Crista Troester, Tulsa's executive senior associate athletic director/SWA; and former TU women's basketball player from the first team in 1976-77, Alicia Conner-Todd.
Throughout the game, Tulsa recognized other women who have helped make an impact in women's sports.
