Golden Hurricane Softball Hosts Tulsa Invitational This Weekend
TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa softball team, 10-10 on the season, hosts the three-team Tulsa Invitational this weekend, Friday-Sunday, March 10-12, at the Collins Family Softball Complex.

Tulsa is coming off a 3-2 weekend at the TU/OSU Invitational last weekend, in which the Golden Hurricane captured a 6-5 win over No. 23-ranked Missouri. Tulsa also claimed two run-rule victories on the weekend with an 8-0 decision over Tarleton State and 12-4 win against Maine.

This weekend, the Northern Iowa Panthers and Sam Houston State Bearkats will be the participants at the Tulsa Invitational.

On Friday, Tulsa and Northern Iowa will face-off in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. for the only two games of the day. UNI and Sam Houston State will get the action started on Saturday with an 11 a.m. game. Tulsa and SHSU will follow the opener at 1 p.m., while Tulsa and UNI will meet for a third time in the 4 p.m. game.

Two games are on the slate for Sunday with Sam Houston State and UNI battling at 10 am, followed by a 12:30 p.m. contest between Tulsa and Sam Houston.

Northern Iowa leads the series 12-7 and won the last meeting in 2019 by a 10-4 score in Tulsa. The Hurricane holds a 6-2 mark against Sam Houston as the teams split two games last season.

Tulsa's bats came alive in last weekend's five games, as the Hurricane totaled 28 runs, 49 hits and six home runs for a .366 batting average. Through 20 games, Tulsa has a team batting average of .286 with 151 hits, 94 runs scored and a .409 slugging percentage.

Tulsa center fielder Haley Morgan leads Tulsa offensively with a .413 batting average on 26 hits and 12 RBI in 63 at-bats. Shortstop Imani Edwards has a .354 average at the plate, while first baseman Claira Skaggs has a .339 average and right fielder Kailyn Bearpaw comes in at .308.

Skaggs is the reigning American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, having won the honor for her performance last weekend that saw her register 10 hits with two doubles, three home runs and eight RBI in five games. Two of her three HRs were walk-off shots to defeat No. 23 Missouri and Maine.

Sophomore Maura Moore has posted a 2.89 earned run average in her 10 appearances to lead the Hurricane in the circle. The NJCAA All-America transfer had her first no-hitter in just her seventh game in a Tulsa uniform as she blanked Tarleton State for an 8-0 win a week ago. Junior Kylee Nash has posted a 5-5 record with a 4.38 ERA for the Hurricane.
