Hurricane Men Drop 4-2 Decision to SMU in The American Quarterfinal

ORLANDO, Fla. — The No. 5 seed University of Tulsa men's tennis team started out with a 2-1 lead but dropped positions 3-5 in singles play to fall 4-2 to fourth-seeded No. 51 SMU (16-13) Friday in the quarterfinal round of the American Athletic Conference Championship at the USTA National Campus in Orlando. The loss drops the 53^rd-ranked Golden Hurricane to 11-13 on the season.

Although the duo of Timothy Carlsson Seger and Daniel Siddall grabbed a 6-3 win at Doubles No. 2, SMU would score the doubles point with 6-3 and 7-5 decisions in the first and third positions.

Seger tied up the dual match at 1-1 with a two-set win (6-2, 6-4) at Singles No. 6, improving to 8-2 in dual match action. He has won five straight in the sixth position and seven of his last eight completed matches.

Putting Tulsa up 2-1 was Kody Pearson, who scored a 7-5, 6-4 victory over No. 65 Adam Neff in the No. 1 spot, putting him at 6-2 on the season against nationally ranked singles opponents.

The momentum wouldn't last as the Mustangs grabbed a 6-2, 7-6(7) decision at the No. 3 position and a 7-5, 7-5 result in the No. 4 position to go up 3-2 on the Hurricane.

SMU's Julian Steinhausen clinched and ended the match at 4-2 in the fifth position after going three full sets with Tulsa's Adham Gaber. Gaber won the first set 6-3 but couldn't close out the second and third sets, dropping a 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 result and leaving the second position unfinished.
