TULSA, Okla. –
The University of Tulsa softball team battled the nation's top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners before eventually falling to the visitors 6-0 on Tuesday night in front of a sold-out crowd at the Collins Family Softball Complex.

The Golden Hurricane (20-27, 6-9 The American) didn't make it easy on OU (46-1, 15-0 Big 12), trailing only 2-0 into the seventh before a grand slam with two outs broke the game open.

Kylee Nash (9-13) pitched a fantastic game for the Hurricane. The junior hurler tossed 6.1 innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits. Despite no strikeouts, Nash didn't allow the Sooner batters to make strong contact, giving up no extra base hits. Maura Moore came on in relief in the seventh and pitched two thirds with a strikeout and two runs allowed.

The Sooners threw four of their pitchers against the Hurricane. Jordy Bahl had the start and tossed three shutout innings. But it was Nicole May (15-0) who recorded the win. May put in 1.2 innings of work and gave up one hit while striking out two. Alex Storako picked up her first save of the season in relief as she pitched the final two frames.

The top of the order all picked up hits for the Golden Hurricane. Haley Morgan and MacKenzie Denson singled in the sixth to give Tulsa its best opportunity to get on the board. Imani Edwards and Claira Skaggs also delivered singles in the game.

For OU, Alyssa Brito was the lone Sooner with two hits, one of which was the grand slam in the seventh. Tiare Jennings drew a pair of walks and scored on both efforts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams were held hitless until the third inning on Tuesday. After a two-out walk, an OU single up the middle put a runner in scoring position and gave the game its first hit. An error extended the inning and brought in the first run before another single gave OU a 2-0 lead.

The game would remain this score until the seventh inning. However, Tulsa's best chance came in the bottom of the sixth. Morgan and Denson singled back-to-back with two outs to put the tying run on first base. It was not to be, as a flyout ended the threat.

Nash departed the game with runners on first and second with one out in the seventh. The Tulsa and Sooner fans rewarded the pitcher with deserved applause after her performance.

After Moore got a strikeout against her first batter, a walk loaded the bags with two away. The Sooners were able to give themselves some breathing room as Brito drove a 1-1 pitch over the wall in left to score four and put OU up 6-0. Tulsa singled to lead off the seventh, but the next three were retired as OU took the win.
