TULSA, OKLA. –– The University of Tulsa softball's Haley Morgan and Maura Moore picked up The American honors for their performances over the weekend as Morgan was named the conference Player of the Week and Moore earned Pitcher of the Week honors, as announced by the league office this afternoon.
Tulsa finished the week with a 3-1 record after falling to No. 1 OU 6-0 on Tuesday before sweeping ECU over the weekend. Both Morgan and Moore have made multiple appearances on The America's Honor Roll this season, but neither been selected as a player of the week until now. They join Claira Skaggs and Imani Edwards as Tulsa players to receive the honor in the 2023 season.
Morgan hit .455 over four games last week. In the series at East Carolina, the senior center fielder slashed .500/.667/1.500 with four hits, two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI. She also came around to score three times, was hit by a pitch, drew three walks and stole a base. She set a career mark with five RBI in the first game on Friday, a 9-0 win, and her two-run home run in the seventh inning on Saturday gave Tulsa the lead and completed the comeback in the 6-3 victory.
Moore was close to untouchable in her two starts against East Carolina. The sophomore pitcher tossed 12 innings and had two complete game shutouts, giving her seven for the season. She allowed just two hits in each game and carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning on Sunday. Over the course of the weekend, opponents hit just .100 off Moore, and she struck out eight.
The Golden Hurricane finished the regular season with a 23-27 record, 9-9 in The American Athletic Conference, which netted Tulsa the No. 4 ranking for the upcoming conference tournament. TU will face No. 5 Houston in the opening game of this week's softball championship on Thursday. First pitch is set for 10 a.m. (CT) and will air on ESPN+.
