DALLAS, Texas – The Golden Hurricane women's soccer team and SMU couldn't be separated in a 0-0 tie on Thursday evening in Dallas.
The Golden Hurricane moved to 2-6-3 on the season, 0-0-2 in The American, while SMU is now 5-2-1 and 1-0-1 in league play.
Sophomore goalkeeper Tatum Sanders showed why she's one of the top goalkeepers in the conference, making four saves to keep a good SMU attack off the board. Three of her saves came in the second half, when SMU had nine shots and earned five corners. It was the battle of the Tatum's, as Sanders' counterpart, Tatum Sutherland, also made four saves on the night.
Tulsa will return to action next Thursday, September 28 at home against Rice. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.
How it Happened
The two teams were evenly matched in the first half. While SMU had more possession, it was Tulsa who had a four to three advantage in shots and two to one in shots on goal. Each team had a few chances, but neither could convert.
SMU was on the front foot in the second half, putting pressure on the Tulsa defense. The Hurricane did have a couple of looks, including an 80th minute shot from Ashlyn Fernandez off a cross that for a moment looked destined to sneak between the sticks before SMU's Sutherland was able to make the save.
The Mustangs had two great looks shortly after 10 minutes into the second half. Sanders made a leaping save in the 56th minute to deny a strong shot. She came up big again in the 59th, somehow stopping a shot from six yards out to deny SMU.
