Tulsa Falls in 1-0 Decision on Senior Night

TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa women's soccer team hosted a tough East Carolina team for Senior Night Thursday but came up short in a 1-0 decision. The Golden Hurricane moves to 5-6-2 and 1-3-0 in American Athletic Conference action while the Pirates rose to 6-2-4 and 3-1-1 in league play.

ECU scored in the 24^th minute off a free kick resulting from a Tulsa foul. From there the Pirate's stout defense kept the Hurricane out of the net and saved the ball four times.

The Tulsa women will be back in action at UTSA, taking on the Roadrunners Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m.

How it Happened
After a corner kick by the Hurricane, two corners by the Pirates and seven combined fouls committed between both squads, ECU's Juliana Viera lined up for a free kick a quarter of the field away from Tulsa's net. She sent the ball on a deep arc into the goalkeeper area and into Lucy Fazackerley's head, sharply sending it down into the grass and through the lower right corner of the goal in the 24^th minute.

Each team had three shots on goal at the half, with Tulsa having two extra shots blocked by Pirate defenders.

The second half was scoreless as Tulsa shot the ball six more times and only once on goal. ECU's goalkeeper Maeve English finished the game with four saves and Tatum Sanders had six.

Game Notes

East Carolina remains in control of the overall series at 5-10-4.
The Hurricane had 11 total shots with four going towards the net, while the Pirates shot the ball 10 times, seven on goal.
ECU had six corner kicks to Tulsa's two.
GK Tatum Sanders got the start and played all 90 minutes in goal … she moved to 3-5-2 on the year.
