Tulsa Men’s Cross Country Season Ends in NCAA Championship

MADISON, Wis. – The University of Tulsa men's cross country team completed their season at the NCAA Championships Saturday as the Golden Hurricane battled sub-40 temperatures at the Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wis.

The Tulsa men were the only unranked team on the course according to the latest USTFCCCA Coaches' Poll and finished 31st of the 31 teams competing.

Leading the way for the Golden Hurricane was redshirt junior Shay McEvoy, who finished the 10K course 130th overall in 30:06.1. Redshirt senior Chris McLeod (156th) crossed the line in 30:18.1 with redshirt senior Jaden Forester (167th) following in 30:24.9. Redshirt freshman Ben Brown (219th) and redshirt junior Oisin Spillane (237th) rounded out TU's top five finishers, completing the race at 31:08.3 and 31:32.0, respectively.

"It wasn't the result we came in hoping for, but we are pleased to have made the National Championship," Men's Head Coach Taylor Gulley said. "We knew it would be tough to bounce back after regionals, but I thought through our front three, we ran pretty well! After that, we really just looked out of gas. With a young and inexperienced team, I can't say I'm shocked. The key thing is taking this result and learning from it, so when we come back, we're ready to compete at this level better."

BYU swept the men's and women's national titles on Saturday. They were the favorite to win both races.
