TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team began fall camp early Monday morning on the grass of Harwell Field, beating the near 100-degree temperatures that hit later in the day.
Second year TU Head Coach Kevin Wilson was excited to hit the field and get things underway. With organized team activities allowed earlier in the summer, fall camp is another step in getting prepared for the season opener.
"We had 13 OTA practice opportunities, where we're helping the young quarterbacks, receivers, linemen learn play calls," Wilson said. "So even though today is practice one, it's almost like you're year-round training."
Practice started at 8:45 a.m. with temperatures hovering around 80 degrees with 77 percent humidity. There was close to a 10-degree uptick in temps by the end of practice.
"We practiced this morning, and we'll come back this afternoon and we'll watch it, have a lift and put it to bed at dinner." Wilson said. "We'll come back in the evening and we start tomorrow. Here's tomorrow's plays, here's tomorrow's situations. We'll practice that in the morning, watch it in the afternoon, get in a lift, put that one to bed and move on to the next situation."
Tulsa will be back on the practice field on Tuesday morning.
The Golden Hurricane opens the 2024 season at H.A. Chapman Stadium on Thursday, August 29 against Northwestern State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Season tickets for all six home games, including Oklahoma State, Army, UTSA on Homecoming, ECU, FAU and Northwestern State are on sale now. Mini plans are also on sale now and include Oklahoma State, Army and ECU, starting at only $55. Tickets can be purchased online at TulsaHurricane.com/tickets or by calling 918.631.4688.
