
Tulsa Drops Road Test at Missouri State, 1-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Tulsa women's soccer team looked to ride the momentum from Friday's 5-2 season-opening win but was stopped short, 1-0, in a tough road test Sunday against Missouri Valley Conference-favorite Missouri State in Springfield. The Golden Hurricane dropped to 1-1-0, while the Bears rose to 1-1-0.
The Bears spent much of the game in Tulsa's territory, recording 24 shots, including 13 shots on goal, and 10 corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Tatum Sanders guarded the poles for all 90 minutes and had eight saves.
Tulsa will remain on the road to face Kansas (2-0-0) on Aug. 22 at 7:00 p.m.
How it Happened
The Bears got the board first within the sixth minute of the game to take the early 1-0 lead. Julia Kristensen sent the ball to the upper right corner of the net and was set up by Grace O'Keefe.
At the break, Missouri State had 13 shots with seven being on goal, while TU had seven shots and two on goal. Tatum Sanders had six saves and the Bear's Camielle Day had two heading into the second half
A red card was issued to Tulsa's Brenna Rowlett in the 56th minute of the contest, forcing the Hurricane to compete down a player for the final 34 minutes.
No goals were scored in the final 45 minutes as Missouri State's defense tightened up in the second half, allowing only four shots by the Hurricane, including one shot on goal. The Bears concluded the game with 13 shots on goal out of 24 total attempts.
