TULSA, Okla. – University of Tulsa Vice President and Director of Athletics Justin Moore announced Wednesday that Joe Fields will join the Golden Hurricane as the deputy director of athletics and chief operating officer. Fields most recently served as the executive associate athletic director at Texas A&M and had been with the Aggies since 2017, where he worked with Moore for many years.
"My family and I are excited to join the Golden Hurricane family," Fields said. "I'm grateful Justin has entrusted me to serve in such a critical role. Justin is a transformational leader, and I look forward to serving the University of Tulsa under his leadership. I can't wait to start working with our staff, coaches and exceptional student-athletes."
Fields fills a newly created role in the University of Tulsa athletics department.
"We are pleased to add Joe to our staff," Moore said. "He is one of the brightest administrators in our industry and will be an incredible asset to our department. We look forward to the impact he will have on our program and are excited to welcome his family to Tulsa."
At Texas A&M, Fields oversaw the Aggies NIL activities, student-athlete performance and wellness, the Letterman's Association, and equipment and apparel operations and contracts. He served as a sports administrator for the track and field and cross country, men's basketball and football programs, as well.
Fields started in College Station as the associate athletics director for academics in 2017. He worked in that capacity before moving into a role as the deputy athletics director for administration and student-athlete experience, and then elevating to his most recent position.
Fields was a four-year player at Syracuse who found his way all over the field. In 2005, he became the first Syracuse true freshman to start the season opener at quarterback since 1982. For the final two seasons of his career, he made the switch to free safety, starting every game and earning all-conference honors as a senior. Fields went on to play the 2008 NFL season with the Carolina Panthers before calling time on his career.
After his playing career ended, Fields returned to his alma mater in an academic capacity, starting as a graduate assistant. Fields worked his way up the ladder, culminating in a promotion director of academics for student-athlete development, a role he held until his departure for Texas A&M.
Fields graduated from Syracuse with a bachelor's degree in physical education in 2008. He also holds a master's degree in instructional design, development and evaluation from Syracuse.
He and his wife, Sade, have a daughter, Jade, and two sons, Joseph Jr. and Jode.
