TULSA, Okla. — After resuming the game late in the first half Friday morning from a lightning delay turned postponement Thursday night, the Tulsa women's soccer team fell 3-1 to North Texas at the Hurricane Soccer Stadium. The Golden Hurricane dropped to 4-5-2 and 0-2-0 in American Athletic Conference action while the Mean Green rose to 6-2-2 and 2-0-0 in league play.

North Texas out-paced Tulsa with 21 total shots and 11 on goal throughout the game. TU could only attempt five shots and just two on goal, one of which was the lone goal by junior midfielder Maggie SymSmith, who received the ball from senior defender Ashlyn Fernandez who fielded it from a corner kick by freshman forward Kaleigh Hart.

Tulsa did have more corner kicks (6) than North Texas (4), but the Mean Green were able to capitalize on more opportunities while driving down the field.

Tulsa's next contest will be in nine days as the Hurricane will take a trip to Philadelphia to take on last-place Temple (2-7-0, 0-1-0 AAC) at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29.

How it Happened
North Texas struck first in the 13^th minute when Claire Niedermeier sent the ball into the TU net off a pass from Emma King. Then, UNT made it a 2-0 game when Mia Bernard shot the ball into the open net in the 23^rd minute. She was set up by Rachel Roebuck, who received the ball from a deep free kick that sailed over the Tulsa defense.

With 10:54 remaining in the first half (35^th minute), nearby lightning sent the game into a delay. After 1 hour and 23 minutes of lightning and severe rain, the game was postponed to Friday morning.

Tulsa's only goal of the game came on a corner kick in the 52^nd minute as F Kaleigh Hart sent the ball perfectly into the penalty area to D Ashlyn Fernandez, who passed the ball forward on a header to MF Maggie SymSmith who saw an opening and sent the ball flying into the net off her right foot from just outside the goal area to make it a 2-1 contest.

The Mean Green would get on the board one more time as the goalkeeper Maddie Ogden came all the way up to midfield for a free kick and sent the ball flying over everyone in the penalty area and just over the outstretched hands of Tatum Sanders into the upper center of the net.

MF Maggie SymSmith got her first goal of the season in the 52^nd minute, the second of her career … she was set up on a corner kick by F Kaleigh Hart and D Ashlyn Fernandez.
F Leah Diaz and F Blaine Schutte each had two shots.
UNT extends the series lead to 5-2-1.
The Mean Green had 21 shots, including 11 on goal, while Tulsa had five shots and just two shots toward the net.
Tulsa had six corner kicks to North Texas' four.
GK Tatum Sanders started between the poles for Tulsa and played all 90 minutes.
