
Tulsa’s Shay McEvoy Named AAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week

IRVING, Texas — The University of Tulsa's Shay McEvoy has taken home the season's first American Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week award, the league announced Tuesday. The redshirt junior is the fifth Tulsa man to bring home the AAC's weekly honor and the first since Micheal Power (2021-23) on Oct. 18, 2022.
McEvoy, a 2022 cross country All-American from Kilkenny, Ireland, brings home his first career weekly conference award.
In the Golden Hurricane's season opener at Oklahoma State's Cowboy Preview, McEvoy led all TU runners with a 14:59.015 performance at the Greiner Family Cross Country 5K Course. His second-place finish overall helped push the Tulsa men to a first-place mark with 26 points, beating out Texas A&M (59 points), No. 3 Arkansas (85 points), defending national champion Oklahoma State (97 points) and Oklahoma (103 points).
