DENTON, Texas — Tulsa (7-4-5, 2-2-3) and North Texas (5-9-2, 1-4-1) battled to a 1-1 draw at UNT Soccer and Track & Field Stadium on Sunday, with both teams scoring in the second half.
The match between Tulsa and North Texas commenced with both teams striving to gain an early advantage. Tulsa's Blaine Schutte launched the first significant attempt on goal in the 7th minute, but it was saved by North Texas goalkeeper Alina Arneth. Schutte's effort was part of her aggressive play, matching her season high with three shots in the game. Despite multiple offensive efforts, including shots from Piper Szafranski and Kaylyn Simmons, the Golden Hurricane was unable to break through. The Mean Green responded with offensive pressure, highlighted by a shot from Emma King in the 42nd minute, which was saved by Tulsa goalkeeper Tatum Sanders. Sanders, in particular, was impressive, recording her second highest save count of the season with five. The first half concluded scoreless, with neither side capitalizing on their opportunities.
Tulsa's Jordan Frederick broke the deadlock in the 55th minute with a goal, marking her 11th goal of the season and giving the visiting team an early second-half lead against North Texas. Despite facing a red card issued to Lauren McIntyre in the 65th minute, which was the first red card of the season for Tulsa, Tulsa's defense, anchored by Sanders, held firm with several key saves. The Mean Green pressed for an equalizer and finally succeeded in the 81st minute when Lillian Vandiver found the back of the net, leveling the match. Both teams continued to press for a winner, but the game concluded in a 1-1 draw after North Texas and the Golden Hurricane exchanged several more attempts on goal.
Tulsa holds a record of 7-4-5 overall and 2-2-3 in conference play. North Texas stands at 5-9-2 overall with a 1-4-1 mark in conference play.
In their next game, Tulsa will host UTSA on October 19 at 1 p.m. The match will take place in Tulsa, Okla., as they return to their home field.
