CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The two-seeded University of Tulsa fell to six-seeded Florida Atlantic University 3-0 on Wednesday at Charlotte Soccer Field in a neutral-site matchup. This was the American Conference Championship Semifinal match, marking Tulsa's first appearance in the conference tournament semifinals since 2021.
The match commenced with Tulsa and Florida Atlantic both looking to establish control. The Golden Hurricane's Jared Aguilar, who matched his second-highest shot count of the season with three in the match, had an early chance in the 5th minute, but his shot was saved by Florida Atlantic's goalkeeper Alfred Mikkelsen. Florida Atlantic took the lead in the 36th minute when Ethan Schumaker found the back of the net. Oliver Moller-Jensen extended the lead for the Owls at 40', scoring with assists from Mamadou Diarra and Andreas Raisanen, bringing the halftime score to 2-0 in favor of the higher-seed team.
The second half commenced with a strong defensive effort from both teams. Tulsa was caught offside early in the 46th minute, while Aguilar attempted a shot five minutes later. Notably, Will Applegate has recorded at least one shot in six consecutive games. A yellow card was issued to Alex Cunningham after a foul at 55', shortly after a yellow being shown to the Tulsa bench. Despite multiple fouls by Florida Atlantic, Moller-Jensen found the back of the net again in the 82nd minute, assisted by Diarra and Aboubacar Traore, extending FAU's lead to 3-0. The half concluded with the Golden Hurricane unable to capitalize on their opportunities, and the score remained unchanged at the final whistle.
Tulsa holds a record of 5-9-4 overall and 3-3-2 in conference play. The Owls are 11-3-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the conference and will advance to the American Championship final on Saturday.
