Tulsa Trips Up in Game Two Against Memphis

TULSA, Okla. – Miscues alongside timely hitting hurt Tulsa in a 13-3, five-inning loss in the second contest of a three-game series with the Memphis Tigers on Saturday at the Collins Family Softball Complex.
The Golden Hurricane (11-11, 1-1 The American) committed five errors in the loss, while Memphis (12-12, 1-1 The American) recorded 14 hits and scored of its runs in the third and fourth innings.
Brinly Maples (3-4) got the start and was handed the loss. In her two innings of work, she allowed five runs, three earned, on six hits with a walk. Alexa Hopkins gave up five runs and five hits in an inning and a third of work, and Abby Hayes pitched 1.2 innings. She was tagged for three runs, two earned.
The Tigers gave the ball to Lyrical Bennett (3-2). She went on to collect her second complete game of the season, scattering four hits across five innings of work. Bennett was tagged for three runs, only one earned, and struck out a pair.
Tulsa held a 3-0 lead into the game-changing fourth frame. Celeste Wood drove in a first inning run, her fifth RBI of the weekend, on a single. Tallulah Pascucci doubled in a run with her one hit. Faith Russell also recorded an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tulsa took the lead in the opening inning. Faith Russell reached on an error with one out, advancing to second on the play. With two outs, Wood stepped in and picked up another RBI with a single up the middle, scoring Russell.
The Hurricane tacked on a pair of runs in the second. Brookly Foster singled to the pitcher and advanced to second on passed ball. Pascucci came to the plate and roped a double to right, scoring Foster. Another passed ball moved Pascucci to third. A Russell groundout brought her home to give TU a 3-0 lead.
The game flipped in the top of the third as Memphis pushed five across on five hits and two TU errors. A leadoff single got things started. The next batter hit a ball to third and Maci Cole's throw to second was wide, making both runners safe. A single to right brought one run in as it was misplayed, allowing the runner on first to go to third. With runners on the corner, the Tigers put together a double steal to cut the lead to TU lead to 3-2.
Zoe Adebayo doubled to tie the game, and then she scored on the ensuing single to give Memphis a 4-3 lead and end the night for Maples. After another single, Hopkins got the first out of the inning with a groundout back to her. The next batter lined out to Dill in center. She fired home, but not in time to catch the runner from third, who scored to make it 5-3 Memphis. Amber Turner made a smart play behind the plate, taking the throw from Dill and firing to Cole for the third out, catching the runner from second attempting a late advance.
Memphis blew the game open the following inning, this time with eight runs on seven hits and three TU errors. The Tigers recorded a pair of doubles in the frame, though neither scored runs. The first was to lead the inning. A sacrifice bunt moved her to third, where a single brought her home. After another double put two in scoring position, Adebayo singled home two more runs as Memphis jumped up 8-3.
From there, the Tigers tacked on five more runs in part thanks to another three errors, a pair of singles and a sacrifice bunt. Tulsa went down in order in the fourth and fifth, ending the game. The Tigers closed with 10 straight outs against TU.
