Tulsa Wins Rubber Match with Memphis 8-0 in Five Innings

TULSA, Okla. – The Golden Hurricane softball team took down Memphis 8-0 in five innings on Sunday afternoon at the Collins Family Softball Complex to win the opening American Athletic Conference series for both teams.

The Golden Hurricane (12-11, 2-1 The American) bounced back from poor game on Saturday to record Tulsa's second shutout of the season. Memphis (12-13, 1-2 The American) was held to five hits in the final game, nine short of Saturday's output.

Maura Moore (8-5) got the starting nod and spun a complete game, her second of the weekend and sixth of the season. It was her first complete game shutout of 2025. Moore limited the Tigers to one extra-base hit and allowed more than one hit in just a single inning.

At the plate, Amber Turner did a lot of damage, driving in five runs with a pair of hits and a sacrifice fly. The freshman catcher was one of four Hurricane with multiple hits, joining Celeste Wood, Faith Russell and Annika Dill. Dill had Tulsa's lone double and drove in a run. Brookley Foster also had a hit and RBI in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After shutting Memphis down in the top of the first, Tulsa got to the Tigers in the bottom of the frame. Faith Russell picked up a one-out single before back-to-back walks loaded the bases. A flyout was the second out, but not quite deep enough to score Russell. Turner solved the problem with a single down the left field line, scoring both Russell and Wood.

The Tigers attempted to punch back in the top of the second. A leadoff walk was met by two quick outs. Then, an infield single and a walk loaded the bags. Moore settled in and got a pinch hitter to pop out to Cole at third base, ending the threat.

Tulsa loaded the bases again in the bottom of the third frame on singles from Wood, Dill and Paige Knight to lead things off. Turner drove in her third run of the afternoon with a sacrifice fly to left. Foster brought Dill home with a groundout to the shortstop as Tulsa extended its lead to 4-0.

The Hurricane doubled its lead in a big fourth inning. After a lineout, Russell and Wood each singled again. A wild pitch brought Russell home, and then Dill doubled to left to score Wood. Another wild pitch moved Dill to third, and Knight drew a walk to put runners on the corner. Tallulah Pacucci came on to pinch run and stole second, setting the table for Turner's two-RBI single to give the Hurricane an 8-0 lead after four.

More came out in the fifth to shut the door and record the complete game. The Tigers grabbed a double with one out, needing just a single run to keep the game going. Instead, Moore caught the next batters looking on consecutive strikeouts to win the game and the series.
