TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa (1-1-1, 0-0-0) secured a 1-0 victory over Central Ark. (0-3-0, 0-0-0) on Friday night at Hurricane Soccer & Track Stadium, with a decisive second-half goal.

The first half between Tulsa and Central Arkansas ended scoreless, despite numerous attempts on goal. Notably, Tulsa featured four new starters in the lineup at the beginning of the game. Tulsa's offensive efforts were evident with multiple shots early in the half, including attempts by Joses Chukwu and Bowen McCloud. Central Arkansas responded with a shot on target by Lucas Shearer, which was saved by Tulsa's goalkeeper Carlito Saylon. The Golden Hurricane continued to press forward, with Kevin Thallinger and Gijs Hovius each having shots saved by Central Arkansas goalkeeper Javier Ramirez. Despite Tulsa's aggressive strategy, including several corner kicks, neither team was able to convert their chances into a goal.

The second half began with Tulsa on the attack, earning a corner kick and following up with a shot by Jared Aguilar. Tulsa maintained pressure, as Chris Nezianya's shot was saved by Central Arkansas goalkeeper Javier Ramirez. TU's Kevin Thallinger came up with a big save in the 52nd minute, knocking out of bounds a shot from Vaclav Kozeny that was headed for the back of the net. Gijs Hovius, who had previously seen his shots saved, broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, scoring the first goal of the season with an assist from Nils Orywol. The match saw several fouls and a red card issued to Central Arkansas's Edgar Correia, but Tulsa retained their lead to finish the half 1-0.

"We've been working really hard from the start of the semester and first two games didn't really go our way, but today we finally got the win and I got the goal, so it was great," said Hovius following Tulsa's victory over the Bears at Hurricane Soccer & Track Stadium.

The tie placed the Golden Hurricane at 1-1-1 on the season. The Bears remained winless with a record of 0-3-0.

The next challenge for Tulsa sees them traveling to Omaha, Neb., to take on Creighton. The match is set for September 1 at 6 p.m.
