GREENVILLE, N.C. — East Carolina University (3-3-2, 1-0-0) defeated the University of Tulsa (5-3-1, 0-1-0) 2-0 on Thursday night at Johnson Stadium, with the Pirates scoring once in each half.

East Carolina took an early lead in the first half, with Alyssa Tucker scoring in the 3rd minute. Tulsa's Tatum Sanders was active in goal, making several key saves, including on shots from Tucker and Amy Mason. Sanders' performance, with eight saves, marked her second most in a game this season. The Golden Hurricane struggled to find the back of the net despite multiple attempts, notably by Blaine Schutte and Kaleigh Hart, both of whom were denied by East Carolina's Olivia Dietrich. This game was significant for Hart, as it was her first with multiple shots and shots on goal. The Pirates maintained their pressure with AJ Mayock and Isabella Gutiérrez consistently testing the Tulsa defense, but the half concluded with East Carolina holding only a 1-0 advantage.

Tulsa and East Carolina faced off in a competitive second half, with East Carolina maintaining the lead from the first half. The Pirates came out aggressively, with Tucker and Caitlen-Star Dolan Boodram both taking early shots, the latter saved by Tulsa's goalkeeper, Sanders. Dolan Boodram extended East Carolina's lead with a goal in the 63rd minute, assisted by Molly Thomas, making the score 2-0. Despite the Golden Hurricane's attempts, including a shot by Jordan Frederick saved by Dietrich, they were unable to find the back of the net, concluding the half with a 2-0 victory for East Carolina.

Tulsa fell to 5-3-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play. East Carolina improved to 3-3-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference standings.

The next challenge for the Golden Hurricane is a road match against Little Rock on Sept. 14. The game kicks off at 12 p.m. in Little Rock, Ark., where Tulsa will look to secure a victory away from home.
