Moore’s Gem Not Enough on Day One in Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas — Despite early offense against Iowa State in the first game and a terrific pitching performance by Maura Moore in the second, Tulsa fell in both halves of doubleheader action on Friday at the Dream City Invitational in Arlington. Tulsa fell to Iowa State, 9-5, to open the day and then was bested by UT Arlington, 2-1, in the second game of the day.
In the matchup against Iowa State, Tulsa collected 10 hits but struggled to maintain momentum after a strong start. The Golden Hurricane took an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning. Mackenzy Glenn highlighted the offense with a double and a run scored, while Faith Russell contributed with an RBI single. Iowa State responded with a comeback, hitting two two-run homers in the fourth to take the lead and extending it with a four-run sixth inning. Despite a final run from Russell in the seventh, Tulsa could not overcome the Cyclones, ending the game at 9-5.
The second game against UT Arlington turned into a pitcher's duel. Annika Dill led the offense with two hits, including a double, and scored a run. Pitcher Maura Moore had an impressive outing, striking out eight batters over six innings and allowing just two earned runs. Tulsa started strong again, going up 1-0 in the second inning when Dill scored after advancing on a wild pitch. However, UT Arlington rallied in the fifth, scoring twice to take a 2-1 lead. Despite Tulsa's efforts, they could not find the equalizer, concluding the game with a 2-1 loss.
Tulsa is back at Sunday when they take on UT Arlington again at 11:30 a.m.
