A former TU track star, April Montgomery was named director of operations for athletics in July 2012.

Montgomery was appointed to her present position after spending one year as a Golden Hurricane an assistant track & field coach. Before that, she spent two years as a graduate assistant in the athletic operations department.

A 12-time letterwinner at Tulsa, Montgomery ran track for four years (2005-09) after red-shirting in the 2004-05 campaign. As a senior, she was named one of 12 Conference USA student-athletes to earn the Jim Castaneda Postgraduate Scholarship Award. Montgomery maintained a 3.96 grade point average throughout her undergraduate career at Tulsa.

In her senior season, Montgomery qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter hurdles. She earned all-conference honors in outdoor track for the 400m hurdles and the 4x4000-meter relay, while also earning all-league merits for the indoor 4x400m relay. Montgomery's best mark for the 400m hurdles was a time of 58.71 at the 2009 NCAA Regional meet.

Prior to beginning her collegiate career, Montgomery was a four-year letterwinner in track and three years in cross-country at Broken Arrow High School. She helped lead her high school to team state titles in track and runners-up in cross-country as a senior. Montgomery was the state champion in the 800-meters, 1,600m relay and 3,200m relay, while placing as the runner-up in the 300m hurdles in her senior season.

Montgomery was a double major at TU, earning her bachelor's degrees in 2009 in psychology and exercise sports science. She received a master's degree in Education in May 2011.
