  • Joe Scelfo enters his first season with Tulsa Football in 2025. He joined the staff in December as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator.
  • Scelfo spent the 2024 season as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach with coach Lamb at ETSU.
  • At ETSU, Scelfo coached Luke Smith (OL), AJ Johnson (WR), Bryson Irby (RB), and Derrell Bailey Jr (OL) to All-SoCon honors.
  • The offensive line at ETSU paved the way to rush for 100 yards in 11 of 12 games during the 2024 season, including a season-high 308 yards in a win at The Citadel.
  • The offensive line led the way to leading the SoCon in rushing yards (2,330) and rushing yards per game (193.2). It was the first time in school history that ETSU led the SoCon in rushing.
  • The offensive line also protected the quarterback, allowing only 17 sacks, the fewest in the conference.
  • He spent the 2023 season as the tight ends coach at the University of New Mexico.
  • Scelfo spent the 2022 season at Gardner-Webb as run-game coordinator and offensive line coach for current Golden Hurricane coach Tre Lamb.
  • He helped guide the Bulldogs into the FCS Playoffs in 2022, advancing to the second round. Gardner-Webb averaged 32.2 points per game and rushed for 2,323 yards on the year, including a 1,000-yard rusher, during the 2022 season. Gardner-Webb posted its top-scoring season since 2005. Center Gabriel Thompson and tackle Clayton Frady each earned All-Big South honors in 2022.
  • Scelfo spent 2020 and 2021 coaching the guards and centers at nationally ranked Southeast Louisiana.
  • During his time in Hammond, La., the Lions ranked among the national leaders in total offense, ranking second in 2019 (484.8 ypg) and seventh in 2020-21 (508.6 ypg).
  • Southeastern Louisiana also boasted the nation’s No. 2 passing offense in both seasons and was in the top 10 nationally in first-down offense and scoring offense in both seasons.
  • In 2020-2021, Scelfo’s interior line helped power an offense that converted 51.9 percent on third down (6th nationally) and ranked No. 9 in red zone offense (92.9%). The unit also protected the nation’s top quarterback, Cole Kelley, who won the 2021 Walter Payton Award as the top offensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision.
  • Two of his players earned All-Southland honors following the 2021 season. The Lions finished the spring sprint ranked No. 20 in the final STATS FCS national poll.
  • In 2019, Scelfo mentored All-Southland selection Jarius Gooch.
  • Scelfo’s first coaching spot came at NC State, where he served as a graduate assistant in 2018.
  • After his collegiate career, he signed as a free agent with the NFL Houston Texans.
  • He started all 49 games during his career with the Jaguars and Wolfpack.
  • He played for the Wolfpack as a graduate transfer center in 2016, starting all 13 games. Scelfo led the team with 51 knockdown blocks and was named the Wolfpack’s Most Valuable Offensive Lineman.
  • Scelfo transferred to NC State after playing at South Alabama, where he was named first-team All-Sun Belt in 2015.
  • The Bogart, Ga., native was an All-State selection at North Oconee High and rated the nation’s No. 12 center prospect.
  • He is the son of former Tulane head coach Chris Scelfo – a veteran of the profession with more than 30 years in the college and pro ranks.
  • Scelfo earned his undergraduate degree from N.C State in 2016. 
  • He and his wife, Mallory, have one son, Tripp.
