Men's Basketball Gets Another Lopsided Win

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - The University of Tulsa held its third consecutive opponent to fewer than 50 points in a 107-49 rout of winless Jackson State Tuesday night.

Kevin Johnson paced six Tulsa players in double figures with 19 points, helped by his 13-for-14 effort at the free throw line.

It was the third consecutive blowout victory for the Hurricane since an 86-76 loss to Creighton Dec. 19.

Since then, Tulsa (9-4) has defeated Wichita State 78-49 and Prairie View A&M 115-46.

Tuesday's game marked the first time Tulsa has scored 100 points in consecutive games since the 1983-84 season under former coach Nolan Richardson.

Tulsa shot 54.7 percent from the field and 45 percent on 3-pointers while limiting Jackson State (0-13) to 35 percent from the field and 16.7 percent on 3-pointers. Tulsa had a 49-22 edge in rebounds.

David Shelton came off the bench to score 18 points for Tulsa in 17 minutes. Greg Harrington had 15, Marcus Hill 14, Jack Ingram 11 and Marqus Ledoux 10.

Richard Bradley had 20 points for Jackson State. Cliff Walker had 7 points.

Jackson State shot out to a 10-2 lead, hitting 5 of its first 7 shots. But Tulsa reeled off a 21-2 run in the next four minutes to take command at 23-12.

The Tulsa lead reached 60-25 by halftime.
