Smith Named Assistant Coach for Track Squad

Tulsa, Okla. - Former all-Big 12 runner Kascie Smith has been named as assistant track coach at The University of Tulsa today, announced Steve Gulley, TU's head track & field coach.
Since graduating from Baylor University with a degree in studio arts in 1999 with a minor in business administration, Smith has worked with the track teams at Jesuit College Preparatory School and St. Thomas Aquinas Junior High School in Dallas, Texas. He has also helped coach the Texas Stars Track Club.
In charge of the sprints and jumps at Jesuit, Smith coached several record holders including a relay team that qualified for the Texas Relays. As the head coach at St. Thomas, he led the team to its first city championship in 30 years, last season.
With the Texas Stars, Smith worked mostly with the sprinters ranging in age from 8-17-years-old. He coached the TAAF record holder for the 200m and 80m dashes as well as the 4x400m relay state record holders. He also coached Junior Olympic qualifiers as well as Hershey National qualifiers.
As a runner with the Bears, Smith served as captain of the track squad both as a junior and a senior. He was a member of the last Southwest Conference indoor track and field conference championship team, when Baylor won the title in 1996. Smith was the Big 12 runner-up for the 200m as a senior, in addition to qualifying for the NCAA championships. He also was a member of the conference champion 4x100m-relay team. The team earned a spot in the NCAA championships that year as well. Smith also helped lead the 4x200m-relay team to a first place finish at the Drake Relays. Competing in the 200m, long jump and the 4x100m relay, Smith helped lead the Bears to a 2nd place finish at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships as a senior.
Smith comes to TU from Dallas, Texas, where he has worked with Allied Riser Communication in its purchasing department.
