EUGENE, Ore. – Tulsa's Sara Morefield concluded a historic season Thursday evening at the NCAA Championships, earning Second Team All-America honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while shattering her own school record by nearly 15 seconds.

Competing in the second semifinal of the evening, Morefield crossed the line in 9:46.31 to place 14th overall, narrowly missing a spot in Saturday's national final. The mark bested her previous school record of 10:00.34, set earlier this season. The Lucas, Texas, native now owns the four fastest 3,000-meter steeplechase performances in program history, all recorded during the 2026 season.

The sophomore put together one of the most successful seasons by a Tulsa distance runner in recent memory. Morefield opened her outdoor campaign with a victory in the steeplechase at the Stanford Invitational before successfully defending her American Conference title in the event. She later placed second at the NCAA West First Round to become the first Tulsa woman to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships since 2014 and the first in program history to earn a national championship berth in the women's steeplechase.

In addition to her steeplechase success, Morefield earned bronze medal and All-Conference honors in the 5,000 meters at the American Outdoor Championships.
