FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Tulsa took the track on the first day of the NCAA West first rounds today, qualifying one athlete to continue in postseason competition on the day.

Tulsa opened action in the men's 400 m, as Evan Sanni-Thomas recorded a 46.13, the second fastest time in school history, to earn a spot in Friday's event quarterfinals. In that round, he will look to place in the top 12 to advance to the national championship. With the result today, The Woodlands, Texas, native now owns five of the six top times in program history.

In the 400 m hurdles, Colin Madison fell short of advancing to the quarterfinals, placing 47th in the event.

Following a scheduled pause for weather, two competitors in the men's 10,000 m took the track. Shay McEvoy and Ben Brown entered the race seeded 29th and 31st, but both athletes surpassed their ranks in the placement. However, neither result was enough to advance to the national championship in the event, with Brown finishing 23rd in 29:24.80, while McEvoy placed 26th with a 29:25.22 result.

The Golden Hurricane will return to the track on Friday when Sanni-Thomas seeks a national bid in the 400 m, along with Luke Birdseye in the 3000 m steeplechase and Charlie Krasnoff in the 5000 m.
