Vanderbilt Tops Tulsa, 2-1, in Overtime Thriller

Tulsa, Oklahoma - After trailing Tulsa, 1-0, Vanderbilt scored one second half goal and added the game-wining goal in overtime to get past the Hurricane, 2-1, despite terrible weather conditions at Vanderbilt Soccer Stadium in Nashville, Tenn.

Tulsa falls to 5-5 overall and 0-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play, while Vanderbilt improves its overall record to 4-3-1 and 1-0 in league games.

The Hurricane jumped on the board early when freshman forward Kyle Brown dribbled through the Commodores defense and blasted a shot from the right side at 18 yards out into the back of the net.

After intermission and as field conditions deteriorated, Vanderbilt finally broke into the scoring column at 73:40 when Brendan Matthews corralled a deflected shot and kicked into the net to tie the contest at, 1-1.

The game remained tied at the end of regulation and the two teams headed into overtime. Vanderbilt attempted just two shots in the extra period while holding Tulsa without a shot attempt. At the 102:57 minute mark, TU junior goalkeeper Brent Salter made a save on a Commodore corner kick, but VU's Nik DeMello found the deflected shot at knocked it in for the game-winner.
