TULSA, Okla. - Keylon Kincade ran for 169 yards and a touchdown to lead Southern Methodist to a 24-14 victory over Tulsa in a turnover-plagued game Saturday.
SMU (3-6, 3-4 Western Athletic Conference) rotated five running backs and two quarterbacks to snap a two-game losing streak.
Tulsa (1-9, 0-7 WAC) lost its ninth in a row. Quarterback Josh Blankenship, third on Tulsa's depth chart, eclipsed 5,000 yards passing in his career and threw for 170 yards and a score.
SMU quarterbacks David Page and Kelan Luker had identical stats, 4-of-7 with an interception each.
Kincade's 26-yard scoring run with 3:24 put the Mustangs up 24-7.
Blankenship hit Donald Shoals from 2 yards for Tulsa's second touchdown with 1:48 to go. Ken Bohanon ran it in from the 1 with 4:44 left to put the Golden Hurricane on the board.
Both SMU first-quarter touchdowns came off Tyler Gooch's interception throws.
Kevin Garrett picked off Gooch's pass on Tulsa's 30. Charles took it in from the 4 with nine minutes left in the first quarter after a 23-yard pass from Luker to Billy Ford set up the score.
Jonas Rutledge picked off a hurried throw from Gooch and ran in from the Tulsa 31 with 5:05 left in the first. Gooch went out with a left knee sprain on the play and didn't return.
SMU lost a fumble and Tulsa lost two in the game.
With SMU leading 14-0, Sherman Steptoe picked off Page's pass. But Tulsa turned the ball over on a fumbled handoff from James Kilian to Bohanon on the SMU 5.
Later, Harold Burgess picked off a tipped pass from Luker at the Tulsa 48. Two plays after that Johnson Patman intercepted a tipped throw from Blankenship.
The Mustangs have won all five games since the two joined the WAC in 1996.
