TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Marcus Hill scored 18 points and freshman Jason Parker came off the bench for 13 Thursday to lead Tulsa to a foul-plagued 79-55 victory over Rice.
The Hurricane (15-8, 6-4 Western Athletic Conference) used a 16-0 run and made 12 of 22 free throws in the second half to widen its 40-35 halftime lead.
Mike Wilks led Rice (11-10, 3-6) with 25 points, 16 in the first half. Teammates Erik Cooper and Shawn Tyndell added 13 and 12 respectively, but no other Owl had more than 2.
The Owls have lost a season-high four straight while Tulsa ended a two-game losing streak.
Kevin Johnson had 12 points and Greg Harrington added 10 for the Hurricane, which shot 46.4 percent from the field and sank 10 of 20 3-pointers, but was just 17 of 29 from the free throw line.
Rice tailed just 44-42 with 15:32 to play after a drive by Wilks. Then Tulsa went on its big run, including two baskets by reserve forward Charlie Davis and a 3-pointer by reserve guard Antonio Reed, to put away the Owls.
Tulsa led 35-22 with 3:46 to play before halftime, but a 13-2 run by Rice pulled the Owls within 37-35. Parker hit a 3-pointer to send TU to the half with a 40-35 lead.
Rice shot just 30 percent in the second half after a 50 percent first half.
