Tracksters Win at John McDonnell Invitational

Fayetteville, Ark. - The University of Tulsa track teams finished well at the John McDonnell Invitational on Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark. The Hurricane won three events and placed in the top five in 12 other events.
Freshman Shana Robinson broke the school record for the 200m with a time of 23.79. Winning the event, she broke the previous mark of 23.82 set by Caroline Avbovdede in 1999. Shana also won her prelimeninary heat of the 100m with a time of 11.42.
Seniors Tiffaney Williams ad Wendy McFarlane finished first and second in the 400m with times of 54.46 and 54.81, respectively. While fellow senior Fride Vullum won the 1,500m in a school record time of 4:29.09. Already owning the third best time in the WAC this season, Vullum improved on her previous school record time of 4:35.43 in 1998.
On the men's side sophomore Trey Runnels finished third in the 100m with a time of 10.46 after winning his prelim heat. He also finished second in the 200m with a personal best time of 21.11.
Senior Shawn McCullough finished fourth in the 800m with a personal best time of 1:50.70. Fellow senior Tim Surface also set a new personal best time in the 3,000m clocking a time of 8:38.97.
The next meet for the Hurricane squads will be the Michael Johnson Open in Waco, Texas on Saturday, April 21.
