Tulsa's Inglis Named to Palmer Cup Team

Tulsa freshman David Inglis picked to represent Great Britain and Ireland at the 2001 Palmer Cup.

Tulsa, Oklahoma - David Inglis, a freshman golf sensation at The University of Tulsa, is one of eight players selected to represent the Great Britain and Ireland Team in the 2001 Palmer Cup presented by CSFBdirect. The eight GBI players will compete in the Palmer Cup against eight of the top collegiate U.S. golfers, June 27-28, at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey.

Although a freshman, Inglis is one of the nation's top collegiate golfers. He ranks 28th in the GolfStat Cup ratings, 30th in the GOLFWEEK/Sagarin Ratings and 39th in the MasterCard Collegiate rankings. Inglis has placed among the top-20 in all 14 collegiate tournaments this season, and has had ten top-10 finishes.

He has placed among the top-5 seven times and won two individual titles, including the LSU Spring Invitational and Western Athletic Conference Championship. Inglis was named the WAC Freshman of the Year, first-team all-conference and three times earned the WAC's Player of the Week honor. He has a team-leading 71.9 stroke average and has carded six sub-70 rounds.

Other members of the GBI team include four other players currently playing collegiately in the United States. Augusta State's Jamie Elson and Oliver Wilson, Stanford's Philip Rowe and Graeme McDowell of UAB. Last year, the GBI team defeated the American team, 12.5-11.5, in the Ryder Cup-style event at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, England.

Inglis won the 2000 European Boys Amateur Matchplay Championship and was a member of the Scotland Boys Team, which won the European Boys Team Championship in July 2000 and was crowned the British Junior Open Champion in 1998.
