Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa football newcomers reported to campus today and will begin scheduled practice on Sunday afternoon. Twenty-one scholarship players including one junior college transfer were joined by one walkon athlete.

Of the newcomers, 13 hail from the state of Oklahoma including six from the Tulsa-area, and six freshmen come from the state of Texas. Among the newcomers, six were Oklahoma Super Top 30 members and three were Texas Super 175 players, according to Max Emfinger's Recruiting Service. In addition, junior college transfer D'Wayne McIntosh, a defensive lineman from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, was a SuperPrep Top 100 JUCO player last year.

Among the Oklahomans, five were Tulsa World first-team all-state selection, seven earned all-state honors according to the Daily Oklahoman.

Burns' and his staff are anxious to get underway. "It's fun to see the excitement on their faces when they reported today. This class, over the next four to-five years, has an opportunity to accomplish great things, win lots of games and help establish a program that they can be proud of," said Head Coach Keith Burns.

"There are some needs at wide receiver and defensive line that we'll hope to address with this group," added Burns. "Over the next two days will try to put the newcomers in the right position to give them the best opportunity to play, and help this football team."

The newcomers underwent physicals on Saturday, and will take to the field for one practice on Sunday and two workout sessions on Monday before being joined by the varsity players for Tuesday's media day and Wednesday's practice sessions. The newcomers' Sunday workout is scheduled for 3:45 pm, while Monday's practice sessions are scheduled for 9:15 am and 3:45 pm.
