Track Teams Run at Missouri Invitational

Columbia, Mo. - The University of Tulsa track teams competed at the Missouri Invitational at Columbia, Mo., on Friday. Both the men's and women's squads recorded successful meets as the women's squad posted 12 top-five finishers out of 19 participants. The men's squad recorded 21 top-10 finishes out of 25 participants.

TU won two events on the women's side with the 4x400-meter relay team placed first in a time of 3:48.04. Junior Monica Joannes won the 600-yard run with a time of 1:24.62.

Sophomore sensation Shana Robinson finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.59. She also finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.88. Freshman Paula Richardson finished just ahead of Robinson in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.78 for fifth place.

A pair of freshmen finished third and fifth in the 400-meter dash for the Hurricane. Alisha recorded a time of 57.51, while Chatney Noble recorded a time of 58.28.

In addition to Joannes' top performance in the 600-yard run, junior Jamese James finished second with a time of 1:25.50. Freshman Melanie Hardy recorded a time of 1:26.82 for a fourth-place finish.

Freshman Natalie Rasmussen finished sixth in both the mile run with a time of 5:20.17 and in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:32.9. Junior Sarah Haskins finished seventh in the 3,000m with a time of 10:33.4.

Junior April Johnson finished second in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:57.90.

The Hurricane also had a pair of field event participants as sophomore Suzanne Smith finished 11th in the long jump with a leap of 4.85m (15'11"). Freshman Andrea McGillen became the first TU woman to compete in the pole vault as she finished ninth with a jump of 2.80m (9'2.25").

On the men's side, TU again placed first in two events. Freshman Adrian Young won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.59 along with the distance medley relay won with a time of 10:23.81.

Newcomers Michael Ledowsky and Heston King led the way in the 60-meter dash. Ledowsky finished ninth in a time of 7.28, King finished 10th in a time 7.32. Junior Sean Szafarz finihed 16th in a time of 7.60.

The Hurricane also had a pair of runners place in the final of the 60-meter hurdles. Freshman Jamal Bogle finished sixth with a time of 8.66, while sophomore recorded a best time of 8.68 in the prelims and finished seventh in the final.

Young led a trio of Hurricane runners in the 200-meter dash as well. Ledowsky finished ninth with a time of 23.22. Szafarz finished 10th with a time of 24.49. Young also fourth in the 400-meter run with a time of 50.20.

Three runners finished in the top-10 of the mile run as Andy Norman placed third with a time of 4:18.16. Blake Carpenter finished fourth in a time of 4:20.26, while Ben Orozco finished sixth in a time of 4:26.63. Owain Matthews placed 13th in a time of 4:35.98.

Junior Derek Sparks placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.17. Fellow junior Jared Christiansen finished third in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:33.2.

Matthews placed sixth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:52.79, as Orozco placed 10th with a time of 9:07.61. Sophomore Derek Smith finished 18th with a time of 9:27.75.

The distance medley relay team was not the only successful team for the men, as the 4x400-meter relay team finished fourth with a time of 3:25.43.

Sophomore Jason Kruger finished fifth in the high jump with a heighth of 2.06m (6'9"), with King finishing sixth reaching a heighth of 2.01m (6'7").
