Dec. 3, 2002
Tulsa, Okla. - University of Tulsa senior linebacker Michael Dulaney was named to the Verizon Academic All-America second-team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Dulaney has maintained a 3.85 grade point average in sociology. For the season, Dulaney led the Hurricane for the second straight season with 100 tackles despite missing the first game of the season with an injury. He also added six stops for -24 yards, two interceptions and forced two fumbles on the year.
In his career at Tulsa, Dulaney tallied 193 tackles and 17 stops for lost yardage. Dulaney was a two-time Verizon Academic All-District IV selection.
To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average for his career.
Dulaney's selection marked the fifth time in the last eight years that the Hurricane has had either a first- or second-team Academic All-America performer for football. Past TU football honorees included David Millwee (1995), Levi Gillen (1996, 1997) and Drew McLaughlin (2000), all first-team selections.
