Track and Field Signs Three Athletes During Early Signing Period

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa track and field team added three new athletes to its 2003-04 roster during the early signing period, as announced by TU head coach Steve Gulley. The new Golden Hurricane athletes include Ashley Ast, Dreu Harris and Ashley Holly.
A native of Conway Springs, Kan., Ast throws the javelin. The Kansas Class 3A state champion in 2001, with a throw of 143'1", ranked No. 21 in the country that same year. She has helped lead Conway Springs High School to back-to-back track and field team state championships. A member of All-State volleyball team, Ast also helped the Fighting Cardinals win a three volleyball state championships and one basketball championship. She chose Tulsa over Wichita State.
Harris, from Sherman, Texas, competes in the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles for Tom Bean High School. Last year, she finished second in Class 2A at the Texas state championships in the 100mh and third in the 300mh. Harris was named the Texas Amateur Athletics Federation 2A State Athlete of the Year, in addition to winning the 100mh at the Texas Relays. In 2001, she finished third at the Texas state championships in the 300mh. Harris chose TU over Baylor and Abilene Christian.
A native of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Holly competes in the long jump and triple jump. In 2002, she finished second in the Class 4A at the Wyoming state championships in the triple jump and finished third in the long jump. She was the regional champion for the long jump, triple jump, 100m and 200m as well. In addition to winning the Wyoming State Indoor long jump and triple jump, Holly owns the state record for the long jump with a leap of 18'4.5". She is also a three-time all-state selection for track and field. Holly chose TU over Baylor, Colorado State, Utah and New Mexico.
