Track Teams Perform Well at WAC Outdoor Championships

Houston, Texas - Sophomore sprinter Shana Robinson and junior middle distance runner Monica Joannes led the Golden Hurricane tracksters at the 2002 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Houston, Texas.
Robinson ran the top time in the preliminaries for the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.72. The Tulsa native owned the top time in the WAC during the season as well. Robinson also qualified for the 200-meter dash final with a time of 23.74, the third best time of the day.
Joannes recorded the top time for the 800-meter run with a mark of 2:09.96, over two seconds faster than the next competitor. The Jefferson City, Mo. native, ran a school record time 2:05.96 mark earlier this season.
Senior Charlotte Sanderson finished second in the women's 10,000-meter run with a time of 36:40.32, while junior Sarah Haskins finished fifth with a time of 37:16.23.
On the men's side, junior Andy Norman finished third in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 31:35.89. Sophomore Owain Matthews finished fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:10.90, missing out on a school record by :00.10 of a second.
