James and Joannes Conclude Season at NCAA Championships

Baton Rouge, La. - Junior runners Jamese James and Monica Joannes closed out the 2002 outdoor track and field campaign in the preliminary round of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Bernie Moore Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.
James finished third in her heat of the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.81. However, only the top two winners from each heat along with the next three times qualified for the finale. James' time ranked 14th overall.
Joannes recorded a time of 2:06.61 in the 800-meter run, for a fourth place finish in the heat. Unlike the hurdles, only the heat winners automatically qualified for the finals, in addition to the next five times. Joannes finished 13th overall.
James recently placed second in the 400-meter hurdles at the WAC Championships after winning the event at the 93rd annual Drake Relays. Joannes closes out a season that saw her win four meets, including the WAC Outdoor Championship for the 800m.
