The Golden Hurricane Blows By UTEP, 79-65

EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Jason Parker scored 15 of his team-high 19 points in the game's final 7:44 minutes to lead Tulsa to a 79-65 victory over Texas-El Paso on Thursday night.
Before Parker went on his run, Tulsa (10-3, 3-1 Western Athletic Conference) held a slim 58-54 lead. Parker scored seven of his team's next nine points to give the Golden Hurricane a 67-56 lead with 5:29 remaining.
UTEP got no closer than seven points, 67-60, the rest of the way.
Dante Swanson scored 17 points for Tulsa, going 5-of-7 from the 3-point arc and led Tulsa with four steals.
Kevin Johnson followed with 15 points while Charlie Davis added 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Giovanni St. Amant led UTEP (3-11, 1-4) with 20 points. Omar Duran scored 16 points for the Miners while Darius Mattear added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
After shooting just 41 percent in the first half, Tulsa hit 73 percent in the second half, outscorinng UTEP 46-32.
Down to only seven players because of defections and injuries, UTEP led most of the first half before settling for a 33-33 halftime tie.
Tulsa opened the second half with a 12-3 run to take a 45-36 lead with 15:53 left in the game.
