Tulsa, Okla. - Two members of The University of Tulsa women's track team have earned a spot on Trackwire Dandy Dozen. Junior sprinter Shana Robinson ranks 11th in the 60-meters, while senior Monica Joannes ranks 12th in the 800-meters.
In two meets this season, Robinson has already broken her own school record for the 60-meters, twice. She has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships with a time of 7.38 in winning the Holiday Inn Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. Last season Robinson also win the Western Athletic Conference Championship for the indoor 55-meters as well as the outdoor 100-meters.
This year Joannes has won the 600-yards for both meets in which she has competed, the Oklahoma Invitational and the Holiday Inn Invitational. In the first meet of the season, she broke the school record for the event with a time of 1:22.32. Last year, Joannes won four meets in the 800-meters, including the WAC Outdoor championships, in addition to provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 800-meters. She currently holds the indoor and outdoor 800-meter school records for the Golden Hurricane as well.
The factors Trackwire uses to build its Dandy Dozen include quantitative values that measure performances in past major competitions (such as conference championships, national championships and Olympic competition), durability and freedom from injuries, demonstrated ability to compete well in multiple rounds of competition, ability in other events, head-to-head competition with other top athletes, and personal or seasonal bests.
