Tulsa Golfers in Seventh Place at Duke Golf Classic

Durham, North Carolina - A trio of Tulsa golfers carded identical first-day scores of two-over par 146 on Sunday to lead Tulsa into seventh place in the 15-team field after the first day of the Duke Golf Classic held at the par 72, 7,045-yard Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C.

Tulsa shot 11-over par 299 in the first round on Sunday, but followed that with the third best second round score of the day with a one-over par 289 for a 588 total. In that second round, Tulsa counted scores of 71, 72, 73 and 73. Tulsa sits just 12 strokes out of the team lead, and only six strokes separate the Hurricane from second-place.

Seniors David Inglis and Chris Noel, along with freshman Sam Korbe finished the first two rounds in 14th place after shooting rounds totaling a two-over par score of 146. Inglis had identical one-over par rounds of 73, while Noel finished the second round of the first day with a one-under par 71 after an earlier score of 75.

Korbe, making his first collegiate appearance this year for the Hurricane, turned in rounds of 74 and 72 for his score. Fellow freshmen Ryan Henry carded rounds of 77 and 73 for a 150 total, good for 31st place in the 81player field, and Tully Coyle had an 80 and 78 for a 158 total and sits in 68th place heading into the final round on Monday.

North Carolina leads the event after 36 holes with a two-round score of 576. Duke (582) is in second, followed by Illinois (583), Kansas State (584) and Michigan State (585) in the top five. Rounding out the field are Toledo (586), Tulsa (588), Texas Tech (598), Florida Southern (603), North Carolina Wilmington (604), Furman (608), Coastal Carolina (608), Virginia Tech (609), Old Dominion (614) and Virginia Commonwealth (622).

North Carolina's Dustin Bray carded the best round of the day, a 65, in the second round to pace the field with a 71-65=136. His two-round total of eight-under par gives him a two-stroke lead over Michigan State's Matt Harmon (72-66=138) and Toledo's Justin Bertsch (69-69=138).

The final round will conclude on Monday.
