Boise, Idaho - The University of Tulsa has been offered and accepted a "conditional" bid Tuesday (December 2) to play Georgia Tech of the Atlantic Coast Conference in the 7th Annual Humanitarian Bowl Game in Boise, Idaho. The bid is "conditional" on the Big 12 Conference securing two berths in Bowl Championship Series bowls.

Tulsa completed the regular season with an 8-4 overall mark and a 6-2 second place record in the Western Athletic Conference. Georgia Tech has a 6-6 record and posted a 4-4 mark in the ACC. The two teams have met twice before, both coming in Bowl games. Georgia Tech defeated Tulsa 20-18 in the 1944 Sugar Bowl, while Tulsa avenged that loss a year later with a 26-12 win in the 1945 Orange Bowl.

"We are honored and excited to have the Tulsa Golden Hurricane as one of the participating institution in this year's game," said Milford Terrell, Chairman of the Humanitarian Bowl. "The Tulsa football team is one of the great turn around stories in college football. They displayed a very talented and well coached team in a very close game at Bronco Stadium earlier this season against eventual WAC Champion Boise State."

"This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our football team and play in a bowl game with a great reputation for conducting a first-class event," said Tulsa Athletics Director, Judy MacLeod. "This invitation represents a celebration of what our football team has accomplished this year and I am extremely happy for our team, university and fans."

"This is a great opportunity for our football team to get to play one more game," said Tulsa Head Coach, Steve Kragthorpe. "This team is deserving of the opportunity to play in a bowl game. I'm really excited for these seniors with everything that they've gone through in their career here at The University of Tulsa. To have a chance to play one more game is obviously a great reward for them."

Coach Kragthorpe continues, "the Humanitarian Bowl has a great history of exciting games, a town that I'm well aware of, having grown up in the state of Idaho, that loves football and supports football extremely well. I know that they'll be excited about Tulsa coming to Boise because they were very complimentary of the way we played and competed against Boise State this last season."

The Humanitarian Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, January 3, 2004, with a 10:00 am MST kick-off. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased at all Select-a-Seat locations or by calling 208-426-4737.
