Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa men's golf team fired a 284 in the third round of the Matlock Collegiate Classic to finish with a two-over par 866 and capture the team title at the Grasslands Golf and Country Club in Lakeland, Florida.
After completing the first and second rounds in a two-way tie with Ohio State for fourth place, Tulsa dominated the field by placing three of its players among the top-10 leaders. Junior David Inglis tied Missouri's Brandon Kaub for the best round of the day as both players fired a five-under par 67. Inglis carded a pair of even-par 72s in the first two rounds and concluded the tournament with a five-under par 211, which was good enough for third place.
Not far behind Inglis was classmate Chris Noel, who finished in seventh place with a two-under par 214. Noel shot an even-par 72 on the final day after a two-under par 142 showing during the first two rounds. Senior Billy Lowry also turned in a solid performance for the Golden Hurricane. Lowry was steady throughout the tournament with a pair of even-par 72s in the second and third round and a one-under par 71 during the first round. Lowry completed the event with a one-under par 215.
Rounding out the Tulsa lineup was senior Marc Zien, who place 56th overall with an 11-over par 227, while sophomore Aaron Bell carded a 17-over par 233 for 75th place.
The individual medallist was Old Dominion's Geoffrey Harris, who led from start to finish and completed the event with a seven-under par 209. Harris finished just one stroke ahead of Virginia Tech's Brendon DeJonge, who finished in second-place.
Tulsa edged North Carolina-Wilmington by one stroke for the team championship.
The Golden Hurricane returns to action at the Louisiana Classic in Lafayette, La., March 10-11.
