Tulsa Splits Victories with LSU on Saturday

Tulsa's 43rd-ranked Alejandro Tejerina netted TU's lone point with a 3-6, 7-6 (2), 1-0 (1) victory over LSU's Peter Richman.

Tulsa, Okla. - Tulsa's 50th-ranked women's tennis team and 54th-ranked men's tennis team went head-to-head against Louisiana State on Saturday at the W.T. "Dub" Robinson Tennis Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

In the women's competition, the Golden Hurricane defeated the 63rd-ranked Lady Tigers, 4-3, winning the all-important doubles point to win the dual. TU's 20th-ranked Alicia Pillay defeated 116th-ranked Rocio Fantilli, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 1 singles position, while 102nd-ranked Aleksandra Durska earned a victory over LSU's Jessica Ferguson, 6-3, 6-3, in the No. 2 slot. Also for Tulsa, Daniela Muscolino earned a hard-fought 7-6 (4), 3-6, 7-5, victory at the No. 4 position over Marina Chiarelli.

In the doubles action, Tulsa won the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 slots, as Pillay and Durska combined to defeat the 60th-ranked tandem, Fantilli and Lauren Seaman, and Mariana Barrios and Donata Majauskaite defeated Ferguson and Amanda Mang.

On the men's side, the Golden Hurricane suffered a 6-1 loss to the 24th-ranked Tigers. Senior Alejandro Tejerina, the 43rd-ranked player in the nation, overcame Peter Richman, 3-6, 7-6 (2), 1-0 (1), at the No. 1 position to net Tulsa's lone point. Tejerina also won his doubles match with partner Aleksander Charpantidis, 8-5.

Tulsa's 19th-ranked doubles tandem, Ryan Livesay and Dustin Taylor, was upset, 8-4, by 24th-ranked Bryan Fisher and Jason Hazley at the No. 1 doubles position.

The Golden Hurricane continues men's and women's tennis action in Louisiana on Sunday, facing Tulane in Baton Rouge. The matches are set to begin at noon.
