Box Score

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Tulsa softball team split its final two games of the Metrodome Classic on Saturday with a 3-2 victory over Bradley in extra innings and a 7-0 loss to host Minnesota.

In the first game, the Golden Hurricane scored first with a run in the first. Sophomore Stacey Walkingstick led off the game with a single, then scored two batters later off a double down the left field line by senior Danielle Olsen.

Tulsa would take a 2-0 lead in the top of the seventh inning as freshman Julie Shafer scored on a two-out single by Olsen. However, the Braves were able force extra innings in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run home run.

With neither team able to score in the eighth inning, Tulsa was able to scratch out a run in the top of the ninth. Sophomore Stephanie Sliepen doubled to center field, then scored on Olsen's fourth hit of the 3-2 lead. Freshman pitcher Maren Genow sat Bradley down in order for her second victory of the season.

Genow improves to 2-0 on the season with the nine-inning, complete game victory. She struck out five Braves, while walking none. Offensively, Olsen recorded four hits to lead the Hurricane attack as TU recorded 11 hits for the game. Walkingstick also picked up two hits for Tulsa.

To say the wheels came off late for the Hurricane against Minnesota, would be an understatement. The first five innings were scoreless, with both teams combining for only seven hits. However, the Gophers exploded for seven runs and 10 hits in the final two innings for the victory. The loss was the first shutout of the season for the TU offense. The four hits were also a season low for the Hurricane.

Walkingstick, Olsen, Brandi McGuire and Shafer all posted hits for TU. Sophomore Ami Day picked up the loss in six innings of work, striking out five Minnesota batters.
