Tulsa Women Dominate UALR Open Meet

Russellville, Ark. - The University of Tulsa women's track team claimed wins in the 100-meters, 200-meters, 400-meters, 800-meters, 1,500-meters, 3,000-meters, 400-meters hurdles, the 4x100-meter relay, the 4x400-meter relay as well as the pole vault on Saturday in the UALR Open. The men's team also claimed victories in the 3,000-meter, 400-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay.
Junior Shana Robinson started the 2003 outdoor season, the same way she has started her previous two outdoor seasons... by winning the 100-meters and 200-meters for the Golden Hurricane. She finished the 100m with a time of 11.74 and the 200m with a time of 24.35. Robinson's time qualified her for the NCAA Regional in May as well.
Tulsa's Chatney Noble took the 400m (54.78), while senior Monica Joannes won the 800m (2:09.63). Freshman Megan Lagwell finished first in the 1,500m (4:53.08), as senior Sarah Haskins won the 3,000m (10:14.70). Fellow senior Jamese James took the 400m hurdles (1:00.76).
In addition to Robinson's time in the 100m, Joannes and James qualified for the regional in the 800m and 400m hurdles. The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Chatney Noble, Alisha Burnett, Joannes and James, also qualified for the regional.
The Hurricane also won the women's 4x100 relay in 47.03 and the 4x400 in 3:41.42. Sophomore Andrea McGillen won her first collegiate meet in pole vault with a leap of 3.35 meters (10').
Tulsa also claimed some victories on the men's side as well. Senior Andy Norman won the 3,000m with a time of 8:31.92. Brannon Vaughn took first in the 400m hurdles wih a time of 53.55; and the 4x400 relay won in a time of 3:15.79.
When the dust cleard, the Hurricane women placed 19 individuals and two relay teams in the top five of their respective events. The Hurricane men placed 12 individuals and three relay teams in the top five of their respective events as well.
