Tracksters Compete at Arlington Invitational

Arlington, Texas - The University of Tulsa track teams competed in the Arlington Invitational at Maverick Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Saturday. The Golden Hurricane won six events on the day, including the women's 200-meter; the women's 800-meter; women's 400-meter hurdles; women's 4x100-meter relay; women's 4x400-meter and the men's 5,000-meter.
Junior sprinter Shana Robinson won the 200-meters over sophomore Paula Richardson by a .08 margin, 23.86-23.94. Both runners qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional for the Hurricane. Robinson finished second in the 100-meters as well with a time of 11.77.
Sophomore Chatney Noble finished second in the 400-meters with a time of 56.93, just missing the regional qualifying mark of 55.00. Already qualified for the regional meet, senior Monica Joannes won the 800-meters with a time of 2:10.60. Sophomore Melanie Hardy finished third with a mark of 2:14.20. Freshman Erin Deasy finished fourth in the 5,000-meter with a time of 18:34.79.
Senior Jamese James finished second in the 100-meter hurdles, just missing the qualifying mark of 14.10, with a final time of 14.17. James bounced back in the 400-meter hurdles with a winning time of 1:02.37.
Sophomore Andrea McGillen finished fifth in the pole vault, with junior Suzanne Smith finishing sixth. Both athletes posted jumps of 3.05m (10'00"). McGillen also finished ninth in the triple jump with a career-best leap of 10.43m (34'02.75")
Both of the women's relay teams won their events. The 4x100-meter squad posted a time of 47.13, with the 4x400-meter team improving on their season best mark with a time of 3:40.31.
On the men's side, sophomore Jed Falkowkski finished second in his heat for the 100-meters with a season-best time of 10.88. Fellow sophomore Josh Childes won his heat in the 400-meters, and finished fourth overall with a time of 49.58.
Freshman Clif Mitchell posted a time of 1:55.89 in the 800-meters to finish fifth, just ahead of senior Brian Erwin's time of 1:56.07. Freshman Justin Lee also finished in the top-10 with an eighth place time of 1:56.46.
The Hurricane also had a pair of top-10 finishers in the 1,500-meters, as sophomore Blake Carpenter finished fourth with a time of 4:04.47 and junior Andrew McKenna finished seventh with a time of 4:06.05.
Senior Ben Orozco won the 5,000-meter run with a career-best time of 15:08.99. Senior Kyle Webb also finished sixth with a time of 16:21.64.
Freshman DeVonne Harrison just missed qualifying for the regional meet in finishing fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with time of 14.58. Sophomore Jamal Bogle posted a time of 15.02 for eighth place.
The men's 4x100-meter relay team missed a qualifying mark by only two seconds, while finishing seventh with a time of 42.81. The 4x400-meter relay "A" team finished third with a time of 3:17.78, while the "B" team posted a time of 3:22.88.
