Golden Hurricane Sign Six Athletes to National Letters of Intent

Head Track and Field Coach Steve Gulley has added 13 newcomers to the 2003-04 seasons.

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa track teams will welcome six more newcomers to the roster for the 2003-04 track seasons. Krystol Lartey, Amy Reeves, Shantel Girtley, Rickey Wilson, Matt McClurg and Jason Schweitzer have all signed National Letters of Intent to continue their educations at TU, as announced by Tulsa Head Track and Field Coach Steve Gulley.

Lartey, a graduate of Northeast Academy in Oklahoma City, Okla., was the Daily Oklahoman's Big All-City Female Track Athlete of the Year after winning the Class 4A State Championship in the 400m, 4x100m, 4x200m and 4x400m last season. She also finished third in the 400m at the Great Southwest Invitational last year. As a junior, Lartey finished third in the 200m.

Reeves, a native of Douglasvill, Ga., holds school records in the 400m and 800m at Alexander High School. She placed third at the Georgia Class 4A state championships in the 800m as a senior, while placing fourth in the 400m as a junior and a sophmore.

A native of Yucaipa, Calif., Cirtley was a California Southern Sectional finalist in the 800m, 4x100m and 4x400m as a senior at Etiwanda High School. She is the school's record holder for the 800m, in addition to being named the squad's Most Outstanding Athlete in 2001 and 2003.

Wilson, from Catoosa, Okla., was Oklahoma's Class 4A State Champion in the 300m hurdles, while also placing fourth in the 110m hurdles as a senior. He is the school record holder for the Indians in the both of those events as well. As a junior, Wilson placed third in the 300m hurdles. He earned Catoosa's Outstanding Sprinter Award as a sophomore, junior and senior.

McClurg comes to Tulsa via Enid (Okla.) High School, where he placed eighth in the high jump at the 2003 Class 5A State Championships. As a senior, he placed second at the regional meet, qualifying for the state meet for the second consecutive year.

A native of Cypress, Texas, Schweitzer graduated from Cypress-Fairbanks High School. He competed in the 1,600m; 3,200m; and 5,000m for the Bobcats.
