Tulsa's Bunting Earns FWAA Freshman All-America Honors

Knoxville, Tennessee - University of Tulsa freshman linebacker Nick Bunting (Tulsa, Okla.) was named to the Scripps/FWAA Freshman All-America Team as announced today by the Football Writer's Association of America (FWAA).
Head Football Coach Steve Kragthorpe was also named the Scripps/FWAA first-year coach of the year after leading the Hurricane to an overall 8-5 record and the school's first bowl appearance in 12 years. Tulsa had the nation's best turnaround with seven more victories than the previous season after a 1-11 in 2002.
Bunting, a 6'1", 205-pound true freshman, completed the season with 79 tackles, seven stops for -22 yards and three sacks for -14 yards. He also intercepted two passes, including returning one for a touchdown.
Bunting was named the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and was also named to the league's first-team as selected by the WAC coaches. He was also named to the Collegefootballnews.com Freshman All-America second team.
The other linebackers named to the Scripps/FWAA All-America team included Virginia's Ahmad Brooks and Florida's Channing Crowder.
The 27-member Scripps/FWAA team was selected by an 11-man committee representing each of the NCAA's Division I-A football conferences.
