Golden Hurricane Men Finish Second at WAC Cross Country Championships

Ruston, La. - The University of Tulsa men's cross country team's top five runners finished within six places of each other, allowing the Golden Hurricane to edge UTEP by one point (79-80) for second place at the Western Athletic Conference Championships at Lincoln Parish Park in Ruston, La. Senior Natalie Rasmussen finished seventh overall on the women's side, as the TU women finished ninth as a squad.
One of five freshmen running for TU, Brett Turowski finished 13th with a time of 26:22.26 over the 8,000-meter event to lead TU. Fellow freshmen Joel Stansloski and Jason Schweitzer finished 14th and 15th with times of 26:30.22 and 26:35.27, respectively. Turowski and Stansloski earned spots on the All-WAC second team for their efforts as well.
Junior Taylor Williams finished just ahead of sophomore Andrew Beard for 18th place with a time of 26:48.74. Beard's 19th place finish in a time of 26:55.73 also helped seal TU's team finish. Freshman Tad Schoedel finished 21st with a time of 27:06.85, while fellow freshman Jay Matlack finished 30th with a time of 28:31.03.
On the women's side, Rasmussen earned first team All-WAC honors with her time of 17:48.75, her second best time for a 5,000-meter event this season. Freshman Breanna Chipney finished 29th with a time of 19:04.69, while sophomore Renine Le Heron finished 31st with a time of 19:10.85.
Rice ran away with the men's title with six top-10 finishers for a total of 27 points. SMU took home the women's title with 30 points and five top-10 runners.
