Four Hurricane Runners Compete in Stanford Invitational

Palo Alto, Calif. - The University of Tulsa track and field teams had four runners travel to the Stanford Invitational on Saturday. Seniors Owain Matthews and Ben Orozco competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000-meter run, respectively. While juniors Justin Rempel and Natalie Rasmussen ran in the men's 1,500-meter run and the women's 5,000-meter run.
Matthews finished eighth in the field of 53 runners with a time of 8:55.44. He just missed his school record time of 8:51.58, which he set last season. Orozco finished the 5,000-meters with a time of 14:49.96, which is a career-best mark and the fourth fastest time in school history. He competed against 126 other runners.
Rempel finished 26th in the 1,500-meter field of 41 runners with a time of 3:48.83, a career best mark and third fastest in school history. His previous best mark was 3:49.83 set during the 2001 season.
Ninety-five runners took part in the women's 5,000-meters. Rasmussen clocked a career-best time of 17:42.55 to move into fifth place on TU's all-time best list for the event.
